In this second part of our blog series, where we’re identifying more dashboard warning signs. Knowing your vehicle’s warning signs is essential to ensure a smooth and secure journey. In this installment, we’ll continue unraveling the mystery behind those dashboard symbols that keep road users safe. Let’s get into it.

  1. Traction Control System (TCS) Warning Light: The Traction Control System warning light looks like a car with wavy lines behind it. It indicates an issue with the TCS, which helps maintain control and stability during slippery conditions. A malfunctioning TCS could lead to reduced traction and handling. Have it checked by a mechanic.

      2. Windshield Washer Fluid Warning: An icon resembling a windshield with wipers signifies low washer fluid. Maintain clear visibility by keeping the fluid level up. This doesn’t require you to immediately pull over or risk damaging your car, but the fluid needs to be topped off.

3. Exhaust Temperature Warning: This symbol, resembling a thermometer inside a box, indicates excessive exhaust system temperature. It could be a sign of an issue with your catalytic converter.  This occurs when the engine is under at least 50 percent of the load, often when hauling on the heavier side at highway speeds.

4. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Warning: The adaptive cruise control light alerts you to a malfunction. ACC helps maintain a safe following distance. The system is designed to assist in emergencies only and helps keep your vehicle at a certain speed to maintain a safe following distance.

5. Lane Departure Warning: The warning is usually a flashing indicator and/or it beeps from the corresponding side. In some systems, the steering wheel or driver’s seat vibrates gently. A road with curved lines indicates a departure from your lane without signaling. If this light is on, your lane departure system might need attention.

6. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Warning: ESC activates when it detects if a driver might be losing control of the car. The system automatically adjusts individual wheel brakes to help stabilize the vehicle during a momentary loss of control. A warning light flashes on the dashboard when your ESC activates and makes adjustments. The ESC light, resembling a car swerving, means your stability control system is engaged. If it stays lit, your system might need servicing.

7. Glow Plug Indicator (Diesel Engines): The glow plug indicator comes on when the engine’s glow plugs are still warming up and your engine should not be started until this light goes out. In a diesel vehicle, this light looks like a coil, and it indicates that your engine’s glow plugs need warming up before starting.

8. Lamp-out warning light: This warning light is often classified as less serious on the contrary, if it’s a headlamp or tail light you can be risking an accident. It’s such an irony that the warning light is depicted as a sun with rays around it considering a lamp out will not have any light to display.

9. Water fluid filter warning: The warning light comes on when the engine is running which means there is excess water in the fuel filter. This occurs when approximately 200 ml of water accumulates in the fuel filter water trap. Your vehicle needs to be checked as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can drain the fuel filter water trap.

10. Exhaust Fluid warning: The exhaust fluid warning light is a warning light that can appear on the dashboard of many diesel vehicles. The light usually shows when there is a problem with the DEF( diesel exhaust fluid) system, which is responsible for reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel engines.
